Entertain, Energize, and Edify. These are the words which Salt and Light use to describe their goals as a band.
This group of young adults – the oldest six of eight siblings from a family of ten – has created a sound, style, and image that are both unique and refreshing. Drawing on influences from across the spectrum of the musical world, they have crafted a style of acoustic music which relies on elements of folk, Irish, bluegrass, and Americana styles. This gives their live performances a sense of variety and tastefulness, while maintaining a consistent, core sound. Their music is best described as an aggressive, hybrid of folk, Celtic, soft rock, gospel and bluegrass musical styles, which combine seamlessly into a sonic blend which is becoming instantly identifiable. Any song Salt and Light arranges will have a large musical presence. They are a big family, and they create big music.
Salt and Light has quickly matured into a professional band, taking the acoustic world by storm. Writing and arranging a large collection of original material, they are not interested in being known for their interpretation of other groups’ songs. While you may hear a familiar song or two within their show, Salt and Light is primarily concerned with performing their own music.
Able to perform at nearly any style of venue, from Arts Centers, theaters, and festivals, to a Sunday church service, Salt and Light exhibit professionalism and proficiency both on and off-stage. There are few groups who have this ability, but this band accomplishes this through both their nearly universal musical appeal and their consciousness of conduct as professional entertainers.
When you see Salt and Light perform live, their show will take you from the edge of your seat, to a place of reflection, and may even get you on your feet. And there is no doubt that you will walk away at the end of their show with a smile on your face and an extra bit of excitement in your heart.
